LIFE is Good |
Play, Learn & Grow! There's a lot to do with unschoolers of all ages. Some folks will pull up a corner and just enjoy talking to supportive, like-minded people. Some kids may passionately play board games, Yu-Gi-Oh, chess or Dance, Dance Revolution for hours. They may set up impromptu video game centers or join together to make music in the lobby. You can swim in the hotel's pool, stroll by the river, stay up late with old and new friends, connect with kindred spirits from across the region and enjoy your unschooling tribe. Speakers Throughout the weekend our amazing speakers will be sharing their passion for unschooling as well as the wisdom and experience they've gained during their journey. Be sure to check out our Main Presentations. You will also have plenty of time to ask your most burning questions and share your own stories during our Circle Chats. Funshops Funshops will be set up for kids and adults alike who want to play, learn and share their interests! Gaming? Harry Potter? ATC's? Arts and Crafts? Music? Geocaching? We hope to have a little bit of everything. If you'd like to host a Funshop, please send us an email at LifeisGoodConference@comcast.net with your idea. Fairy Godparents Here's your chance to bring a little joy and *magic* to someone's weekend. Everyone who wants to participate will write his name down on a sheet of paper,
only once, and place it into a bucket. After each person has done so, everyone
who placed his name into the bucket reaches in and pulls out a name that isn't
his own. Now once you have that name you MUST remember it. You can keep it in
your pocket if need be. If you don't know who this person is, ask people you DO know to find out. But do it stealthily! Once you know your
Fairy God Child you can do anything you want for him as long as it's kind and
makes him feel good inside. You can make signs to hang in public places that say
how wonderful he is, give him a random hug "just for the fun of it", ask someone
to play or sing a song for him, write him a letter, make some kind of special
food for him, or have a group of people hug attack him. Whatever you do make
sure you do it without his knowing it's you---and be creative!! And at the end
of the week you can choose to tell your Fairy God Child who you are
or have him wonder forever.
And, please, if you put your name into the bucket and draw one, please
participate. No one wants to be neglected by his Fairy Godparent! Family Concert
Amy Steinberg will be our special guest at the 2008 conference. On Friday evening (May 23rd) she'll be giving us a family friendly, unschooling loving and absolutely awe inspiring concert.
If you haven't yet heard Amy's music, you can check out her MySpace page and have a listen. Her music is fun, inspirational, funny, zen, quirky, sweet and thought provoking. Her voice is powerful and her spirit is filled with joy. Her concerts just sweep you up and take you along for a wonderful ride.
Everyone who is registered for the conference is invited to attend. We will pass the hat for a small family donation to help pay for Amy's expenses. UNtrepreneurial Fair Does your unschooler have their own business? Do they have a craft or other item they would like to sell? Unschoolers are often budding entrepreneurs! Have them bring their wares to the conference. We'll provide space for displaying and selling their goods during the second annual LIFE is Good UNtrepreneurial Fair. The fair will run throughout the weekend to give everyone who wants to sell an opportunity to do so. SSUDS The Secret Society of Unschooling Dads is back for another round of lively discussion. This is a 'dads only' session to allow the menfolk extra freedom to talk, share and get those questions out in the open. Beverages, support and honest discussion will be provided. Talent Show On Saturday evening we will be hosting a fabulous Talent Show for all interested conference attendees. It doesn't need to be fancy, just something you'd like to share with our audience. Musicians, singers, poets, dancers, avant garde acts of all kinds and ages ... we support everyone in the Talent Show. We will have a microphone, piano and CD player available. Please sign up on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Acts should be limited to 3 minutes so we can fit everyone in who wants to perform. Barefoot Boogie Come dance the night away during our very own Barefoot Boogie. Kick off your shoes and join our freestyle dance celebration with music from around the world and across the decades. Dance with friends both young and not-so-young in a safe, casual, non-judgmental Unschooling Family atmosphere.
Dance, play, connect...expect the unexpected!
Picnic in the Park Stay through Monday and enjoy more time with friends. This year we're having a post-conference picnic at beautiful Esther Short Park. The park is located within walking distance of the hotel and boasts a beautiful wading pool/fountain designed for play, a childrens playground, rose garden, bell tower, pavilion, and thousands of flowers. We've reserved plenty of space for our LIFE is Good tribe to spend the afternoon together. Bring a picnic lunch. Play games, play music, wind down and get all those hugs in before taking off.
